Pharmacy technicians are required to use pharmaceutical math skills on a daily basis. This interactive continuing education activity provides a hands-on review of common calculations that will benefit pharmacy technicians at any level of experience. Whether you’re preparing for the certification exam or looking for a refresher on various concepts, this activity is for you!
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE activity, technicians should be able to:
1. Calculate basic pharmacy problems using ratios and proportions
2. Calculate percent strength of a medication expressed as weight/weight, volume/volume and/or weight/volume
3. Perform accurate flow rate calculations for IV infusions
4. Perform calculations that allow a compounded prescription to be reduced or enlarged
5. Explain how to accurately prepare a medication using the alligation method
