Part I of this two-part activity will review medications that were recently approved by the FDA and will include a discussion of indications, contraindications, common adverse effects, dosing, and administration. A "bottom line" summary will be provided for each drug that will highlight where the drug fits into practice and any limitations to the implementation in clinical practice.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE activity, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Identify therapeutic indications of drugs recently approved by the FDA
2. Discuss the pharmacological properties of the new medications
3. List contraindications, warnings, precautions and significant drug interactions associated with each medication
4. Identify the normal dose and dosage forms of the drugs presented
5. Describe limitations to implementing the new medications into clinical practice
