The saying goes “behind every great pharmacist, there is an even greater pharmacy technician.” Through our Community Health Program and the evolution of advanced technician training, I have seen firsthand the radical impact technicians can make on patient lives and pharmacy practice.
Unfortunately, even before Covid, there has been a shortage of qualified pharmacy technicians. Post-Covid, the gap between what is needed and an adequate number of expert technicians to fill those roles has widened even further. If we as clinicians want to continue to advance our profession, the time for great technicians in our practices is now.
Whether you practice in a healthcare system or a community pharmacy, what is one thing you could do to elevate the technician’s role AND allow the pharmacy team to function more effectively? Ask your pharmacy technician – I’m sure they have some ideas.

PTEC has partnered with CEimpact to offer continuing education (CE) to its technician members. Similar to educating student pharmacists in practice, having an influence on pharmacy technicians during their education and training can shape their career and contribute to a quality technician workforce. A “Prescription” For Your Business
CEimpact recently embarked on a mission to implement the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). The purpose of investing in this process is to clarify our company’s vision and put a process in place to carry it out. After reading the book Traction, our team agreed – we don’t know how organizations operate without a system like this. If you’re interested in learning more, I recommend reading one of Gino Wickman’s books, Traction is our favorite. The EOS process has streamlined the way we work, and I can’t imagine our work life without it now!
