Fill the Need.
No other health care provider knows more about medications than pharmacists do.
So why are we reluctant to lean into that?
I see pharmacists leaving the profession in search of something outside of health care. Which is completely understandable if you decided this wasn’t for you and you are following a different dream. I 💯 respect that.
But if you believe in the impact pharmacists have on patient health outcomes, AND you are fulfilled by working with patients on their medication therapy, lean into it.
Don’t leave.
We need creative solutions to improve healthcare and I believe pharmacists have the answers.
This past week I spoke with one of those people – Dr. Anna Garrett. More than 15 years ago, she saw a need that wasn’t being met. Helping patients in perimenopause with symptom relief. This is a HUGE need. It’s complex and individualized. Prescribers are doing their best, but often patients don’t know where to start or who can help.
Dr. Garrett saw the need, and put her pharmacy and health coach expertise to work! She even wrote a book about it – Perimenopause: The Savvy Sister’s Guide to Hormone Harmony.
Two things I learned from Dr. Garrett:
- How to help female patients better understand this phase of their life, including recommended medications and lifestyle changes. Listen to our podcast
- That we should do a check-in with ourselves to ensure we’re on the right track in our careers. What fills your professional bucket? What need can you fill with your unique expertise? What will be your impact?
If you see the need, fill the need with the expertise you’ve created & accumulated.
As always, have a great week and keep learning!Â
