How Do You Buy?
As we come off a week of deals – Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday – it caused me to think about different types of buyers.
Do you invest time and energy into finding the best deal?
OR
Do you shop when you need something, deal or no deal?
In my experience, there are typically two ways people buy these days:
High Experience: They’re willing to pay more for personal attention, curated items, top-notch quality, and an exceptional experience.
Low Price: They seek the lowest possible cost because what they’re purchasing is seen as a commodity—something easily replaceable with no emotional or personal attachment.
When I reflect on my own spending habits, this rings true. For things I don’t value much or simply need, I prioritize low prices. But for things I truly care about or want to engage in, I focus on high-quality experiences.
It also made me think about education. Sometimes we view education based on price because we need it to renew our license or certification. But most often we should view it for experience – meaningful to practice, innovative delivery, high touch customer service, and developed with you in mind.
As professionals, it’s our responsibility to stay current, competent, and confident. This is a responsibility that shouldn’t be commoditized or undervalued.
What part of your professional development and education do you prioritize? I’d love to hear from you!
As always, have a great week and keep learning!
