This past week I attended a local meeting with businesses that operate on EOS, or the Entrepreneurial Operating System. EOS is a way to bring focus, accountability, and discipline through a “prescriptive” system inside businesses.
While I was at the meeting, I had an “aha” moment I wanted to share.
I realized I learned a lot about my business by talking with people from other industries.
For example, when I left the meeting, I had 5 pages of notes about ways to tackle things I had been struggling with…all because I was able to see them through a new lens.
I bring this up because too often we only talk to people in pharmacy because they understand our challenges and speak our pharmacy language. When in reality, other industries have parallel issues.
Here are three reasons to connect with people in other industries:
- It sparks curiosity. Since we don’t fully understand it, we ask questions that lead to thinking about our own challenges in different ways.
- It drives innovation. Learning about a different industry through our own lens invokes innovative thinking.
- Different isn’t really different. While the details might be different, the challenges and ways we overcome them are similar.
Whether it’s a chamber of commerce, breakfast club, rotary group, or even personal networking groups, there is a lot to be learned from different perspectives!
Are you involved in groups with people from other industries?
Have you had this experience? What did you learn? I’d love to hear about it so I can learn from you!
As always, have a great week and keep learning!

1. Partner Spotlight: Skills Training for Student Pharmacists
This week we’re spotlighting our partnerships with colleges and schools of pharmacy.
For nearly two decades, we’ve partnered with schools to supplement their curriculum and award students badges they can carry with them into their professional careers.
From immunization administration, point-of-care testing, and health coaching, our skills trainings plug into curriculums to provide a seamless approach to learning.
Students complete didactic, online training through CEimpact, which allows faculty to focus on practice discussion and skills assessment in the classroom.
Contact us to learn how we can decrease faculty prep time so they can focus on important implementation skills!
