Longevity

Last weekend we celebrated my grandma’s 96th birthday. She’s one of the strongest people I know (mentally and physically). She embroiders, reads an inordinate number of books, plans events at her senior living apartment complex, walks the halls multiple times a day, and goes to lunch with me every month.

Because I want to live with good health for as long as she has, I recently read the book, Outliveby Peter Attia, MD. If you like data, you will LOVE this book; and if you love the book, you will also love his podcast.

He discusses how to rethink medicine to live better longer by preventing chronic disease and extending long-term health. My favorite part is a chapter on the Centenarian Decathalon. He asks his patients what they want to be able to do as they age, such as getting up off the floor, picking up a grandchild, carrying groceries, etc. Then he provides exercises to “prepare for the Centenarian Decathalon”. It’s a great read!

As always, have a great week and keep learning!
