Pediatric Vaccinations – You Can Do It!

COVID-19 has impacted our world in every way imaginable. As a result, some positive changes are being made in the interest of public health at the pharmacy level.

Recently, as a way to decrease vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks during the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has expanded access to childhood vaccines, allowing for licensed pharmacists, pharmacy interns, and qualified pharmacy technicians in all 50 states to administer vaccines to children. Advocating for change to improve the health and wellness of vulnerable populations and the underserved is my passion and mission, which is why I’m so excited about expanding pediatric vaccinations in the pharmacy setting.

Given the widespread availability and convenience of neighborhood pharmacies, this provides for an unprecedented opportunity to enhance pediatric services in the communities we serve. There is a pharmacy within nearly 5 miles of every American.

But what are the best practices when it comes to vaccination techniques, record keeping, forecasting, and even stress reduction for children? Where can you find the latest updates to the CDC’s recommended pediatric vaccine schedules? What precautions should be taken for vaccine administration during a pandemic? And what resources and supplies are needed to develop a vaccine clinic plan? These are common questions all Pharmacists have, so I created Public Health Solutions’ Pediatric Vaccination Best Practices in Pharmacy course.

Public Health Solutions has partnered with CEimpact to make this CE course available to all pharmacists.  The “Pediatric Vaccination Best Practices in Pharmacy” course includes:

  • Pediatric vaccination recommendations and vaccine schedules
  • Vaccination administration techniques and child stress reduction tips
  • Record keeping, reporting, forecasting, and “well-visit” follow up best practices
  • Overview of the federal Vaccines for Children Program
  • Vaccine Clinic Plan with supply list and optimal space guidelines

You can do this! With these tips and resources, you’ll be well prepared to make pediatric vaccinations more accessible to the public. Sign up for the hour CE course here.
