Last weekend, along with the Iowa Pharmacy Association, we hosted the PharmaCE Expo.
Our education team put together 20 hours of really cool CE where I learned important perspectives on caregiver burden, patient safety, communicating through storytelling, and caught up on clinical updates.
Beyond the CE I earned, I reflected on an even greater reason for attending – connection.
We all know the importance of networking, but this year it was clear that making space to connect with fellow professionals feeds me in ways I struggle to articulate.
Prior to the weekend, I was stressed about taking time to attend the in-person conference. I missed a day of work and I sacrificed a personal weekend day (with a son who plays high school hockey, those days are limited).
That said, I left the weekend feeling reenergized.
I connected with a pharmacy school friend I rarely see, listened to questions from attendees that gave me insight into the profession, had a glass of wine with colleagues to share challenges, reflected on my own journey as a pharmacist, and made new connections.
It’s easy to say conferences are too expensive and you don’t have time to attend. But this year I encourage you to learn with colleagues at least once.
It could be as simple as gathering a small group in your home to watch a webinar together with a glass of wine. Or attend a conference in your town, your state, or even a national meeting.
Whatever you choose, make a point to connect with people.
It’s worth your energy; I can attest to that!
