The future of our profession
Last week I had the privilege of speaking at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy to an outstanding group of leaders.
We covered several important topics:
- The growing need for primary care pharmacists.
- The prevalence of medication-related problems.
- The value of lifelong learning.
- The importance of pharmacy professionalism.
After my one-on-one discussions with the students, I’m confident that these future professionals will build fulfilling pharmacy careers upon graduation!
Despite the challenges facing our profession, engaging with students always lifts me up and reinforces the critical role we play in the healthcare system.
As I drove home, I recalled the Indira Gandhi quote:
“Nothing that is worthwhile is ever easy.”
While this year hasn’t been easy, pharmacy is worthwhile, the care we provide is worthwhile, your career is worthwhile, and mentoring students to continue that legacy is invaluable.
I’d love to hear the signs of hope you’re seeing for the future of the pharmacy profession.
Please reply – I look forward to hearing from you each week!
