You deserve to be celebrated
Happy American Pharmacists Month and an early Pharmacy Technician Day (celebrated on October 15th)!
I am so proud to be a pharmacist and can often be heard saying โa world without pharmacists would be terrible for healthcare and patients!โ
No one else does what we do or has the knowledge we have about medications. Just this week, I heard three stories from pharmacist friends who swooped in to help a family member make sense of their healthcare situation, recommend medication changes, and save the day.
We are true superheroes!
Since I was always a science girl, I didnโt care much for history. But today, Iโm fascinated by it. So, on the 20th anniversary of American Pharmacists Month, I decided to explore how it all began. According to the History of Pharmacy and Pharmaceuticals, in 1925, radio stations aired special nationwide programming for a week in October to spotlight the pharmacy profession. National Pharmacy Week was celebrated during the third week in October each year thereafter.

In 2004, the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) officially designated October as American Pharmacists Month.
The theme this year is Caring for Our Communities, to celebrate how each and every pharmacist is dedicated to caring for and lifting up the community around them, regardless of their practice setting.
So, cheers to you this month!
Iโd love to hear about the cool things youโre doing at your pharmacy to celebrate.
