Legal Requirements for Patient Education in Pharmacy

Legal Requirements for Patient Education in Pharmacy

Pharmacists rely on pharmacy technicians to refer patients to them to discuss their medications. This course provides ways technicians can support the pharmacist in meeting their legal responsibility to provide patient education.

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Identify the standard for patient education in pharmacy as set out in the federal OBRA-90 legislation.
2. Implement strategies to support pharmacists in meeting their legally recognized responsibility for consultation with patients.
3. Interface with pharmacy patients in a manner that assures their needs for pharmacist consultation have been met.
