Malpractice Mitigation: Strategies to Protect Pharmacists
Malpractice Mitigation: Strategies to Protect Pharmacists
Most pharmacy practices are busy. They require systems and continuous quality improvement (CQI) processes to maximize patient safety. This course discusses ways pharmacy systems can inadvertently set up pharmacists to make mistakes that can lead to malpractice liability, and what courts are requiring of pharmacies to minimize liability and risk of harm.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Review a pharmacy practice site to determine threats to quality that may lead to malpractice liability.
2. Discuss how a pharmacy can initiate sufficient institutional controls over order processing at the pharmacy to manage the risk of malpractice.
3. Describe a program of continuous quality improvement to reduce errors and minimize liability for malpractice.
