Managing HIV: Current and Future Treatment Approaches
Advances in the treatment and prevention of HIV provide a better quality of life for those living with, or at risk, for the disease. By staying up to date with current and future treatment approaches including oral and long-acting injectable medications, patient monitoring, and education, pharmacists can support patients for treatment success.
Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Describe the changing epidemiology of HIV and general pathophysiology
2. Identify signs and symptoms of HIV infection and general diagnostic tools
3. List current and future treatment approaches in managing HIV
4. Recommend specific patient self-monitoring and laboratory monitoring to ensure adequate treatment outcomes
5. Implement pharmacy-based interventions to better support patients living with, and at risk for, HIV
