Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Malpractice Liability
Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Malpractice Liability
As pharmacy technician responsibilities expand, the exposure to malpractice liability for errors also expands. This course discusses examples of how to mitigate that liability in situations such as controlled substances, extemporaneous compounding, and professionalism.
Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. Implement an appropriate response to a suspicious order for a controlled substance medication communicated to the pharmacy for a longstanding patient.
2. Formulate and follow effective policies and procedures for extemporaneous compounding to avoid liability for product contamination.
3. Develop a culture of professionalism within the technician-patient relationship to address public misunderstandings of the pharmacy technician role.
