Stroke Prevention Guideline Update

The American Heart Association’s Secondary Stroke Prevention Guideline calls for multidisciplinary team management of patients. Take this course to learn about the guidelines and how pharmacists should apply the “top 10 take-home messages” called out for successful patient outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this application-based CPE course, pharmacists should be able to:
1. List signs, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria for acute ischemic stroke based on the 2021 AHA Stroke Guidelines
2. Assess vascular risk factors in diverse patient populations
3. Identify appropriate indications for antithrombotic use in stroke prevention for persons with atrial fibrillation
4. Apply treatment recommendations for secondary stroke prevention using the updated 2021 AHA Stroke Guidelines
5. Formulate evidence based recommendations for treating persons after an acute ischemic stroke
